New web marketing effort: http://centraltexassprayfoam.com

Life is such a wild ride! I'm busy working for one client...busy living for myslef...and busy sleeping (well, not that much)...and before i know it, the blog has been forgotten! Here's another post. hopefully I will have more soon. My first forray into web marketing is now started. I'm working to build an informative site based on something I feel is important to many people, the environment and the economy: Spray Foam. Sounds strange, but in my own little way, i'm trying to make this world a better place. Though I am dedicated to the world of IT, I am also dedicated to building...I mean houses and barns and commercial structures. So here's my useful site that may be useful to you or someone you know:

http://centraltexassprayfoam.com

Read it over and come back to it from time to time. Post questions on the forum. Find out why this product is so useful and why I think it is important enough to make a website engine with my own free time.

Update...

Seems we took a bit of a pause on this blog. After assessing the damage, it looks like we will be back to publishing on a regular basis. Keep looking back to this page for more content in the very near future. The next post should have some interesting information about our experience with a new wireless printer we found at OfficeMax the other day.

VOIP Phone System Alternative

If you are looking for a new phone system, consider getting an Asterisk PBX. Asterisk is an open source project (www.astersik.org). The system is free except for the hardware needed to run it. Here's what you need to set up a 50 phone system (for systems with 10 to 50 phones, the following hardware is still accurate. below 10 phones, a different quote needs to be made).

$2500 - Server: Dual processor and dual core with 2GB RAM, 2 300GB SATA Drives, Supermicro motherboard, etc).

$1500 - Phone Board: (Digi - get a good one with hardware that handles echo cancellation...usually these boards are less than $1500).

$10,000 - 50 Phones: There are cheap phones available for $75 each, but you should get a phone at around $200 to get better quality conversations. If you want extravagant features get a phone that costs $300.

$1250 - Network Switches w/ POE: Upgrade your network switches to include Power Over Ethernet (POE). This keeps you from having to plug your phone into the electric plug and the network. Date and power will be supplied through the same cable. Linksys Layer 2 POE 24 port switches (12 of the 24 ports are POE) cost about $250. You will need 4 to 5 each.

$15,750 Total Cost.

Most VOIP phone systems of this size cost $30,000 and up. Nortel costs above $60,000. I recommend having an experienced professional configure the system. BNSC can get this size system up and running for $1000. Some local contractors ma do it for less. BNSC will install the software, test the phones, configure the extensions, configure the voice mail, set the call pattern/plan, send you the system and walk you through the placement of the boxes and phones by phone call. We will also train key members of your staff. BNSC can be on location for travel costs plus $650/day (estimating 10 hours per day of worktime).

GotNet Security Forum - April 29, 2008

On April 29, 2008, BNSC attended the GotNet Security Forum at the Petroleum Club in downtown Houston, Texas. What a great event. Several venders from the IT security sector showed up and gave presentations. In my opinion, most of these forums turn out to be thinly disguised sales events. Well this one time, that was NOT accurate. The presentations were informative and useful to IT managers as well as IT professionals. From secure email transmission to remote security to hacking techniques and FBI initiatives, this conference was full featured. Way to go GotNet Security! Bravo Zulu...Job Well Done.

How to create a page on your site...

The process to create a page on your site:

Log in to your website portal using your administrator login. Contact BNSC support if you don't know your administrator login credentials.

Once logged in you will see the site administration control panel at the top of every page. It looks like this:

Click the 'Add' link at the left under 'Page Functions'.

Fill in the necessary information for the page and click the 'Add' link at the bottom of the page. Your new page will show up in the menu by default.

Now that you added the new page, you will want to add content to the page. The simplest way to do this is to use the Text/HTML module. A new page will have a Text/HTML module inserted by default. You can add more by using the module selector in the middle of the administration control panel (see step 2 above).

Happy Earth Day!

Some scoff at earth day, some take earth day very seriously...we enjoy earth day! I like to sit back and take a deep breath...pause for a moment and enjoy the absolute fact that I'm alive on this earth today. All of the trees, plants, animals and people make this great world what it is and that's a beautiful thing. So, even if you do scoff at earth day, get out there and meet some people taking earth day seriously (even if that someone is a houseplant) and have some discussions. Make a garden, plant some trees and get to know earth, earth's nature and each other's nature.
